IC:
Character name: Louie DeRouen Facilier
Character age: 17
Appearance: A tall and lanky black teen who typically wears a threadbare pinstriped black and white suit with a much fresher looking neon blue dress shirt and black tie with a top hat. He looks reasonably unremarkable, if perhaps a bit homeless, but is quite capable of giving a disarming grin full of charm and generally holds himself like he is the king of the world.
Canon they are from: Princess and the Frog
Age of the Canon they are from (If ongoing, when did the last part of the canon they intersect with become available in the US?): Did not exist in the original cannon, co-exists to cannon as a generally ignored child of Dr. Facilier and would have technically been alive through the film, but not aware of anything going on as he was already abandoned at that point.

Relationships with any canon characters: Dr. Facilier: absentee emotionally abusive father; the "Friends from the Other Side": inherited "friends" and givers of powers

Relationships with non-canon characters of note: Monique "Mo" DeRouen: his mother, former lover of Dr. Facilier

How has the canon changed because of this character, if at all?: Functionally, it hasn't. Prior to the events of Princess and the Frog, Dr. Facilier had a fling with Mo (possibly as part of a scam, possibly because humans have needs, or who knows, maybe it even was love turned sour for one reason or another, Louie doesn't know or really even care). Dr. Facilier is still a tramp, a scoundrel, and a conman, and ended up leaving the family, only ever contacting them when he needed something. By the time of the film, he'd either forgotten about them entirely or simply had no need for his once-family and things continued as originally depicted.

History and personality: A New Orleans native, Louie grew up a street rat in the French Quarter with his mom, Monique "Mo" DeRouen. The child of a fling in the Edwardian age, Louie was raised on the outs in an uncaring city and a poor, shunned, mother. The two did their best to make the best of things, but early on Louie learned that if he wanted something, he'd have to get it himself: there are no free handouts for people like him. Growing up, he barely knew his father, and their first meeting was when the older bokor tried to hustle young Louie. It wasn't until a bit later that the two realized their relationship when Dr. Facilier turned up on Mo's doorstep for some help with some scheme.
Really, that more or less defined Louie's relationship with his father: more or less transactional, the youth helping his father pull a con now and then, or directing people towards Dr. Facilier's business in exchange for money and trinkets, and, rarely, a smile of approval. In between these cons, Louie grew up learning the streets himself, picking up the trades of a thief and a confidence man himself. While he generally wouldn't outright burgle people, he was quick with his fingers and happy to liberate items from people's pockets, wallets and wrists if he so wanted, sometimes he'd even let the think they had a chance with a gamble over cards or a game of cups. Generally, he tried to stay away from the violent crime and gangs in the city, trusting more his quick feet over his muscle, though he's been known to throw a strong hook if he had to.
All of this is even outside of his meager powers as a medium. Perhaps he inherited it from his father, or perhaps he as part of some fel deal with the loa bade by the Shadow Man himself who knows how long ago, Louie has always been able to see the same spirits that brought Dr. Facilier much of his fame and infamy (as well as his power). They aren't nearly as generous to the young man as they are to the Shadow Man, after all, Louie isn't in nearly as deeply to their pockets, hasn't made nearly the sorts of sacrifices and deals to them as his father, but he still has their interest, and often their derision. Their taunting, jeers, and offers of "deals" only further pushed Louie away from his peers. After all, who wants to be friends with the crazy guy who talks to himself and says he can put a hex on you? Maybe that was their plan even, who knows. What Louie does know is that they make him miserable as often as they help him, but at least they're good for keeping him out of jail and largely seem to have a vested interest in keeping him from incarceration. Louie hasn't yet decided if he really wants to grow his powers or find some way to shut them up, and after he started being haunted by Doctor Facilier's loa in particular, he's had to fight between his (generally unacknowledged) need for validation from his father and his general annoyance with the interruptions.

Please list and explain the three worst (morally) things your character has ever done: Louie used to run cons with Dr. Facilier, and while his hands were kept more or less clean at least directly, he was aiding and abetting a man who has no problems ruining people's lives or even killing them. He also is a thief and a pickpocket himself and sees nothing wrong in tricking people out of their money or possessions with card games and other similar tricks. Morally, with rare exceptions, he sees himself as the most important thing and has little pause to ensure he gets what he wants if he can. While he tries to avoid it, he's not above making a point violently, even kicking someone when they're down if he has to.

Please list and explain the three best (morally) things your character has ever done.: Despite his jaded street view, he does love his mom and much of what he takes is to help care for her. Even if it is stolen, he brings trinkets and money for her, helps with the dishes and other chores, etc. In addition, he has a soft spot for other beggars and those down on their luck and the sanctity of life in general. He's been known to slip some of his pocket change into a beggar's cup or sneak a hamburger into the hands of the hungry.
Please put the six things above on a timeline relevant to each other: Honestly, I didn't really paint exact moments in Louie's past (though I suppose I could if you really wanted) but rather a more general picture of the man. Each of these things are things he might do on any given day, though ever since the first time he was in an actual fight he tries really hard to avoid it.

Do you consider your character a hero, an anti-hero, a good aligned side kick, a bystander, a victim, a fence sitter, a mercenary, an evil aligned side kick, a villain, or something else? Why?: I think he's a bit of a fence-sitter in a way. If you asked him, he'd argue he was "just a dude, trying to live his life" but at the same time, he's not so virtuous as to be called a hero, nor is he so evil as to be really called a villain. With proper rearing and self-reflection, he might become more of an anti-hero or something, but for now, he's just that unaligned morally grey of someone who doesn't think of himself as bad but doesn't trust the law enough to blindly follow it and just tries his best to survive.

Do you think your character should start on the Isle or in Auradon? Why?: The Isle. The sins of his father weigh heavily on him, and besides, it's not like his hands are terribly clean either.

Which of those two would you prefer your character to start in?: The Isle

Are you still interested in having this character in this game at this time if that preference is not met?: Yes

Powers and Abilities: His only true power is that he's a reasonably strong medium like his father, though without any of the control. With that, he can call down blessings and curses through the loa, but this isn't technically his own power so much as bargaining with the spirits he can see. His own skill with the loa is far less potent than what his father wrought, but maybe with enough training and bargaining, he can become a true Shadow Man. Beyond that, he's very athletic and nimble, though within normal human ability. He's also reasonably smart and quick on the uptake, but again, nothing beyond human limits, though perhaps if he'd found himself in a different set of circumstances he might have been able to attend a good college on scholarship.

What clothing/items did your character arrive with? (See rules and FAQ for what is allowed, feel free to ask if you are unsure): His threadbare and ripped suit (black suit with white pinstripes, neon blue undershirt with a black tie), white undershirt, beat up black and white Oxford shoes, a zippo (long broken and without any fuel anyway, now basically just an idle toy), stiletto comb, pack of cards (the only well-maintained thing he owns), a "lucky" coin (trick coin, weighted to always land on heads), his "friends from another side" (with approval: including the dead version of his father, Dr. Facilier, not that it likely even works when he's on the Isle anyway).

Optional- What do you have to keep in mind when playing this character?: He's still just a teen, not yet really sure of himself even if he thinks he is.

What mod candy, if any, does your character bring? (Aka what elements would you really like to see us play with?): For starters, the Dr. Facilier he knows is very different from the one on the Island. Their interactions and him dealing with a very different (and living) Doctor even existing, one who doesn't know about him, but also is likely much less toxic. Related to that, he may also serve as a sort of mirror to Dr. Facilier and his old ways/what could have been. Similarly, I'm sure he will have some very interesting interactions with the canon Dr. Facilier's daughters, should he have the chance to meet them. Finally, his Medium powers gives an outlet for some types of exposition and clues, as well as unique problems as he speaks with the deceased and other spirits, spirits that are shown to be quite capable of terrifying effects if properly paid (or sufficiently annoyed).

What else do you think the mods should know about your character or their canon?: Nothing I can think of, happy to answer any follow-up questions though

Any questions?: Not that I can think of.
